Lugol's Iodine:
What No One Taught You

A single drop of SSKI (saturated solution of potassium iodide) contains six times more iodine than a drop of Lugol's 5%, and when the target is the breast, the form preferred in the literature is not that solution. This e-book starts from that difference and goes all the way to practice: form and dose in mg, the dilution for each route, from nebulization to the cervix, and molecular iodine in integrative oncology, always as an adjunct.

  • Protocols with doses in mg, cofactors and monitoring
  • Innovative routes, each with its own dilution
  • Molecular iodine in integrative oncology, as an adjunct

Every mistake with Lugol's
comes from treating iodine as one single thing.

In courses and groups, Lugol's swings between two extremes: fear of any milligram and the idea that it works for everything. These are six mistakes the e-book takes apart, each with the evidence label for what is claimed.

  • 01Module 5

"Lugol's and SSKI are the same thing"

They are not. SSKI contains only iodide, 1 g per mL: a single drop has about 38 mg of iodine. A drop of Lugol's 5%, which combines molecular iodine and iodide, has about 6.3 mg. Swapping one for the other drop for drop is a serious prescribing error.

  • 02Modules 2 and 8

The breast calls for molecular iodine, not potassium iodide

In fibrocystic breast disease, molecular iodine (I₂) led to 74% clinical improvement in the Ghent studies, with fewer thyroid effects than iodide. When the target is the breast, the form preferred in the literature is I₂, not SSKI, which contains only iodide.

  • 03Module 6

Selenium alone does not protect the thyroid

In Zaire, giving only selenium to iodine-deficient hypothyroid patients worsened thyroid function. Selenium comes before or together with iodine, and never on its own when iodine deficiency is severe.

  • 04Module 10

"Acne and a metallic taste are detox"

They are described signs of iodism and iododerma. Calling every adverse effect detox can keep a toxic dose going: the right step is to reduce or stop iodine and reassess.

  • 05Module 10

"If you are allergic to shrimp, you cannot use iodine"

Seafood allergy is directed at proteins, which do not exist in Lugol's. Iodine is not an allergen: the real contraindication is a previous reaction to iodide itself.

  • 06Module 12

"The Japanese take 13.8 mg of iodine a day"

This is the number behind the source book's 12.5 mg dose, and it comes from a 1964 survey. Revised estimates fall between 1 and 3 mg a day.

The e-book does not replace the assessment of each patient. It gives the professional the form, dose and route for each indication, and separates what is evidence from what is clinical tradition.

From the milligram to the mucosa,
with the evidence for each step.

The three pillars of the cover subtitle, delivered in dose, dilution and management tables.

Clinical pearl

Patients who strictly restrict salt, who exclusively use non-iodized sea salt, pink salt or fleur de sel, vegans who do not eat seaweed, and people who avoid dairy and eggs are groups at real risk of insufficient intake of iodine and deserve targeted evaluation.

Part 1 · modules 4 to 10

Protocols with doses in mg, cofactors and monitoring

What to give, in what form, with what and how to monitor, before the first drop.

  • Forms and equivalences: how much iodine is in each drop of Lugol's 5%, Lugol's 2% and SSKI, and in each tablet
  • The dose ranges, from the 150 µg daily requirement to the 50 mg of orthoiodosupplementation, and what separates them
  • The authors' regimen in practice: starting at 6.25 mg, timing, pulse dosing and accompanying nutrients
  • Selenium, magnesium, vitamin C, niacin and salt: the role, dose and precautions for each cofactor
  • The checklist before the first dose and the testing schedule at 5 time points
02
Part 2 · module 13

Innovative routes, each with its own dilution

The same iodine protects or irritates depending on the concentration that reaches the tissue: the e-book does that math for each route.

  • The dilution table: how much molecular iodine reaches the tissue with each Lugol's preparation
  • Nebulization: Brownstein's protocol, the only human trial (with povidone-iodine) and the minimum safeguards
  • Nose, mouth, ear, eye and wounds: the concentrations studied and the limit for each mucosa
  • John Myers' technique rebuilt in 11 steps: Lugol's on the cervix and IV magnesium by slow drip
  • The summary box of the 12 routes, with the evidence for each one and where Lugol's fits in
03
Part 2 · module 14

Molecular iodine in integrative oncology, as an adjunct

What research shows about iodine and cancer, separated from what circulates without proof.

  • The mechanistic map: molecular iodine, 6-iodolactone, PPARγ, cell cycle arrest and apoptosis
  • Breast: from animal models to the pilot study in women, with 5 mg/day of molecular iodine alongside chemotherapy
  • Prostate: why iodine calls for caution, especially during androgen blockade
  • Interactions with radioiodine, immunotherapy, tyrosine kinase inhibitors, radiotherapy and iodinated contrast
  • 12 claims from the iodine movement weighed against the evidence

84 pages in two parts.

From the iodine molecule to integrative oncology. Part 1 is the complete protocol; Part 2 brings the critical reading of iodophobia, the advanced routes, oncology, seaweed and questions from professionals. Every claim carries its evidence label.

Written for those who prescribe and open to those who use it.

The e-book is intended for health professionals, but anyone can buy it. The professional decides form, dose and route; the patient understands what they are taking and arrives at the appointment knowing what to ask.

Health professionals

Who already use or want to use iodine in integrative practice and need the form, dose, route and evidence for each indication.

  • The equivalences of each form and the dose ranges, to prescribe in mg of total iodine
  • The dilution for each advanced route, with the evidence and the safeguards
  • Indications by level of evidence, contraindications, interactions and the testing schedule
  • Molecular iodine in integrative oncology and its interactions with cancer treatments

Patients and the general public

Who use or are thinking about using Lugol's and want to understand what they are taking, always with guidance from a health professional.

  • Why a single drop of Lugol's 5% already exceeds the daily iodine limit, and why that calls for monitoring
  • The tests that come before the first dose: TSH, free T4, free T3 and thyroid antibodies
  • The signs that call for reducing or stopping: persistent metallic taste, acne, palpitations and swollen salivary glands
  • The myths from online groups: detox, shrimp allergy and the skin patch test

Intended for health professionals. For patients and the general public, the e-book is a way to understand iodine: it is not a prescription, it does not replace the assessment of a health professional, and milligram doses are not for self-use.
